Students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Bauchi Study Centre, have extended support to orphans in the state, donating food items, clothing, school materials and offering psychological support as part of their DES 303 Community Development Project.
At the outreach, orphans expressed joy as they received items aimed at giving them a sense of belonging, care and family support within the society.
Presenting the donations, the Centre Director, Dr. Madu B. Galadima, said the gesture was designed to demonstrate empathy and community spirit.
He explained that the DES 303 course requires students to carry out projects that address specific local needs through community-based interventions.
Dr. Galadima commended Group Two of the DES 303 class for their impactful initiative and applauded the management of the Bauchi State orphanage home for their coordination.
He prayed for the success of the children, wishing them prosperous futures.
Receiving the items, the Director of Child Protection and Rehabilitation, Dr. Hadiza Yaro, expressed appreciation, noting that the orphanage, established in 1993, has supported many children up to university level.
She added that some beneficiaries are now successful professionals who return to support the home.
She also responded to students’ questions on the processes of adoption and donation, offering detailed explanations.
In another arm of the DES 303 project, a different group of students launched a monthly Community Clean-Up Campaign at the Jahun community in Bauchi.
The exercise aims to sanitize and beautify the environment while promoting sustainable, community-friendly hygiene practices.
The twin initiatives highlight NOUN students’ growing commitment to social responsibility and community development in Bauchi.
