The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the National Open University of Nigeria Alumni Association (NOUNAA) has appealed to the University Management to establish a Special Study Centre within the Nigerian Correctional Service in the state.
The appeal was made on Friday, September 25, 2026, when the NOUNAA Executive Committee, led by its Chairperson, Mrs. Glory Austine Peace Gideon, paid a courtesy and familiarisation visit to the new Director of the Uyo Study Centre, Dr. Uduak Irene Aletan.
During the visit, Gideon welcomed Aletan to the Study Centre and wished her a successful, impactful and fruitful tenure.
She said the Alumni Association was committed to supporting initiatives that would promote the growth and development of the university and strengthen its relationship with its various stakeholders.
Responding, Aletan expressed appreciation to the NOUNAA delegation for the visit and reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to strengthening and sustaining the cordial relationship between the Uyo Study Centre and the Alumni Association.
She noted that continued collaboration between the two bodies would contribute to initiatives aimed at advancing the interests of the University Community.
A major highlight of the visit was the appeal by the Alumni Chairperson and members of the Executive Committee for the establishment of a Special Study Centre within the Nigerian Correctional Service in Akwa Ibom State.
According to the delegation, the proposed centre would expand access to higher education and provide additional learning opportunities for personnel of the Correctional Service and other eligible individuals.
The visit also focused on strengthening alumni engagement among graduates of the Uyo Study Centre.
The NOUNAA Executive encouraged graduates who were yet to identify with alimni to join and actively participate in the association, noting that membership would provide opportunities to connect with fellow graduates, contribute to the development of the University cCmmunity and participate in alumni initiatives.
Aletan thanked the association for the courtesy visit and expressed optimism that the partnership between the Uyo Study Centre and NOUNAA would continue to grow, with both parties working together to promote the development of the university and its human capital.
