The Vice -Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olufemi Peters and his deputy in charge of administration, Prof. Isaac Butswat, have been bestowed with award of appreciation in acknowledgement of their sterling leadership attributes.
The award was conferred to the duo by the Congress of National Open University Students (CONS) during the delegation’s courtesy visit to the headquarters of the university in Jabi, Abuja on Friday, May 9, 2025.
During the visit, leader of the 5-man delegation, and CONS president, Mr. Newland Wuche, stated that the CONS delegates conferred the award of appreciation upon the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor in acknowledgement of their sterling leadership attributes.

According to Wuche, “beyond the conferment of the award, the thrust of our visit is to find out why the planned CONS elections for March was suspended, to seek closer collaboration between the school and the students as well to request the university to finance some of our activities.”
On his part, Butswat, who doubles as the Chairman, Student’s Welfare Board responded to the visitors’ call for a collaboration with the university, saying that NOUN is in the process of establishing a community of online learners soon.
He further clarified on the issue of suspended election and explained that the university is still working on the logistics to ensure inclusivity.

The DVC sounded additonal words of motivation to the delegation, urging them to approach their studies with diligence, and avoid all forms of examination malpractices and other vices.
Responding to the award for the VC and himself, Butswat appreciated them and described the awards “pleasant surprise.”
Established early this year, CONS is a group of NOUN students that promote and advance the interest of the students.
