Staff members of the Lagos Mainland Study Centre I, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) have received training in first aid and emergency response to enhance their capacity to provide immediate assistance during emergencies.
The training, held on August 14, 2026, at the study centre, was facilitated by a member of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
Speaking during the session, Mr. Francis Sobande said the training was designed to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical skills for responding effectively to emergencies before the arrival of professional medical personnel.
He described first aid as the immediate care given to a person who has sustained an injury or suffered a sudden illness before appropriate medical assistance becomes available.
Sobande also demonstrated the importance of conducting a systematic head-to-toe assessment of casualties to identify visible and possible internal injuries, as well as other conditions requiring further medical attention.
Participants were actively involved in practical demonstrations, during which they were guided on the appropriate steps to take in different emergency situations.
The training also featured an interactive question-and-answer session, during which participants discussed and analysed various emergency scenarios to deepen their understanding and improve their preparedness.
The exercise is expected to strengthen the capacity of staff of the study centre to respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, particularly in situations where immediate intervention may be required before professional medical assistance arrives.
