The Special Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) at the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) National Headquarters, Abuja, has received a Customer Service Week visit from the university’s SERVICOM Directorate, with a call for improved, responsive and student-centred service delivery.
The visit, led by the SERVICOM Director, Temitayo Olowole, recently, was aimed at assessing service delivery, student support systems, administrative processes and the overall quality of services available to learners at the centre.
The delegation was received by the centre’s management and staff, who briefed the team on its academic and administrative activities, as well as initiatives designed to support the educational development and welfare of students, particularly learners within the Nigerian Correctional Service system.
During the visit, the team inspected the centre’s facilities and operational environment and interacted with staff to assess the effectiveness of existing service delivery mechanisms.
Discussions focused on key aspects of the student experience, including access to academic support, counselling services, examination processes, information dissemination and the timely resolution of students’ complaints and concerns.
Addressing staff, Olowole emphasised the need for institutions to place students and other service users at the centre of their service delivery processes.
She urged staff to uphold professionalism, responsiveness, accountability and courtesy, while ensuring that students’ complaints and concerns were addressed promptly and effectively.
According to her, quality service delivery goes beyond administrative procedures and requires a sustained commitment to understanding and meeting the needs of service users.
The centre’s management appreciated the SERVICOM team for the visit, describing it as an opportunity to receive constructive observations and recommendations that could strengthen its operations and improve the learning experience.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for the centre to review its existing practices, identify areas requiring improvement and explore strategies for enhancing student support services.
