Staff members, facilitators and students of the Uyo Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Akwa Ibom State, have paid tribute to the late University Bursar, Malam Nasiru Gusau Marafa, following the three-day mourning period declared by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma.
The mourning period provided members of the University Community with an opportunity to express their grief and honour the memory of the late Principal Officer, who passed away on September 6, 2026.
In compliance with the Vice-Chancellor’s directive, the Centre Director, Dr. Uduak Irene Aletan, established a condolence register at the Uyo Study Centre to enable staff, facilitators and students to express their sympathies and pay their final respects to the deceased.
Aletan personally led the condolence exercise and encouraged members of the centre to participate in honouring the memory of the late Bursar.
The strong participation of staff, students and facilitators reflected the widespread sense of loss across the University Community and the high regard in which Marafa was held.
Speaking during the exercise, Aletan described the late Bursar as a well-mannered and exemplary leader whose life was characterised by humility, dedication and integrity.
She acknowledged his contributions to the growth and development of the university, noting that the values he demonstrated during his years of service would remain an enduring part of his legacy.
The Centre Director extended her condolences to the deceased’s family, colleagues, friends and the entire NOUN Community, praying that the Almighty God would grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
She also prayed for the forgiveness of the late Bursar’s shortcomings and the peaceful repose of his soul.
The Uyo Study Centre joined the University Management, staff, students, facilitators and the entire NOUN Community in mourning the passing of Malam Nasiru Marafa, while praying for comfort and consolation for his family and all those affected by his death.
