The Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olufemi Peters, has on behalf of the Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD), Kaduna, presented a letter of commendation to Mr. Musa Aliyu Salisu for the display of professional skills in the discharge of his responsibility.
This happened at the occasion of the official commissioning of a block of classrooms at NOUN Staff School (NSS) Kaduna, recently.
Salisu is a security staff of the university attached to the school.
The presentation was done by the Chairman, Governing Board of the School, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Issac Sammani Rabo Bustwat who represented the VC at occasion.
In what has been described as a total display of professionalism, Mr. Salisu averted a kidnapping incident at the Staff School, months ago.
The letter, which was signed by the Director, CHRD, Dr. Aminu Umar, explained that "this is to commend you for the selfless service and contribution towards the conduct of your job in CHRD.
"The director wishes to acknowledge and commend your performance and contribution toward the successful outcome of activities of the centre specifically the NOUN Staff School Kaduna.
"The university, particularly the CHRD, Chairman and Board members of NSS, pray that you will continue to give in your best towards effective service delivery to humanity," the letter said.
Salisu, who in a chat with NOUN News, recalled that "it was one sunny afternoon at my duty beat, NOUN Staff School, when two unrecognised people arrived in Black Opel Vectra in tinted glasses. They walked toward me, after greeting, they told me that they came to pick a child. I asked them where are you from and who send you to pick him?
"They said is the father of the pupil, then I asked them to call the father which they could not.
"I then told them that we have rules here, we don't allow any body to pick a child just like that without the parent’s confirmation and approval. After a long conversation and dragging they left without the child. Their last statement was 'no problem' and they left."
According to him, the CHRD director, "later came the following day to inform me that I should be very careful when on duty.
"That was when I realised that the father of the pupil had not send anybody to pick his child from the school."
Salisu, known to be very active in the discharge of his responsibility, was also involved in a related development back in 2018.
Mr. Salisu, who was a Security Supervisor, was on a routine inspection when he realised that armed robbers had attacked the Campus Generator Plant.
On arriving at the scene, he realised that the robbers have gained access to the campus into the generator house after over powering the two security officers on duty patrolling the plant and tied them up.
The robbers disconnected the armour cable and removed it from the power generator.
However, it was on this note that the security supervisor on duty uncovered the operation going on and immediately mobilised other security guards to the scene, who chased away the robbers after a short engagement which, according to him, resulted to an injury he sustained in his arm that he is presently battling with.
Elaborating further, he maintained that they were employed by the university to safeguard the properties of the university, as such; they have to observe their duty with all humility.
He thanked the management of the university for recognising and finding him worthy of commendation and assured that he will continue to serve the university with all his strength.
On his part, the CHRD director, Dr. Aminu Umar, commended Mr. Salisu for the display of his professional talents in discharge of his responsibility.
Umar appealed to his colleagues in the security unit to emulate him, and appealed to the university management to conduct more training on the security so as to bring the best out of them.
He urged management to provide and allow the use of security gadgets to aid them discharge their responsibilities efficiently looking at the large sum of facility the university have.
