NOUNAA making waves within short time - Prof. Dugga

The Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Federal University, Lafia, Nassarawa State, Prof. Victor Samson Dugga, has said that the National Open University of Nigeria Alumni Association (NOUNAA) is making an unprecedented impact despite its relatively nascent lifetime.

He said the NOUN alumni has dispersed widely over the globe in quest of development, learning, and knowledge, stressing that its contributions are felt all over the world, as examples of excellence and exceptional achievement abounds.

Dugga stated this at NOUNAA’s 2nd Alumni Lecture, titled “Organising the National Open University of Nigeria Alumni in a Digital Age, which was held at the university's Model Study Centre, Dutse-Alhaji, Abuja.

The lecturer mentioned that a few years ago the operation of NOUN was brought to a halt by the government but has now grown beyond the expectations of everybody as it has since developed into one of the best institutions in the country.

NOUN, according to him, possesses the necessary ingredients for success, boasting of multiple study centres spread round the country, with an environment supportive of overall growth, knowledgeable staff and devoted students.

On his part, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Kola M. Lawal, disclosed that NOUN regards its graduates as its ambassadors and praised them for their efforts to advance the institution.

While commending the guest speaker, the VC said NOUNAA has developed to be a strong association, adding that because members of the association are spread throughout the country, the body has an advantage over traditional universities.

The Director, Advancement and Linkages of the university, represented by Mr. Oladimeji Tiamiyu, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for continuously giving support and creating an enabling environment to the directorate to thrive.

He also explained that the Vice-Chancellor has made it a point of duty to lend support to the alumni association ever since he assumed office.

Director, Abuja Model Study Centre, Prof. Sam Ayodele, urged the association to collaborate with their alma mater in coming up with ideas on ways to make the school run more smoothly, even as he expressed appreciation for the work they had already begun to do for the university.

Earlier, NOUNAA president, Muntaka Abdul-Hadi Dabo, appreciated everyone for attending the lecture present and extended gratitude to the management of the university for contributing to making the event a success and for always partnering with the association, offering assistance for the growth of the university and NOUNAA.
