Awa Ijebu community centre holds orientation for new students

The Awa Ijebu Community Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has hosted an orientation exercise and matriculation ceremony for new students.

The centre also conducted an examination briefing for returning students. 

Director of the centre, Dr. Olufunke Osikomaiya, said during the orientation exercise that the fresher must appreciate the importance commitment, discipline, and upholding the institution's standards during their stay with the university.

The event also featured a comprehensive introduction to the various departments and their functions within the NOUN Awa Ijebu community centre.

Heads of unit and other senior staff members explained, in details, the roles of departments such as Learner Support Services, Registry, Bursary, Library, Store, and the Director's Office.

The freshers were informed on guidance and regulations governing both TMA's and examinations. Timely preparation for the examination and the consequences of engaging in malpractice were also stressed.

Dr. Adekunle Adebanjo provided valuable details on academic matters and the importance of adhering to ethical standards during examinations.

The centre also live-streamed the matriculation ceremony for the benefit of absentees and remote viewers. The ceremonial matriculation oaths were duly administered to all attending students, symbolising their official induction into the NOUN community. 

Through this inclusive approach, Awa Ijebu centre ensured that even those unable to physically attend the event were able to partake in this significant milestone of their academic journey.

In sharing her experience, Mrs. Odulaja Olunfunke Kikelomo, an alumna of the Faculty of Law, shared her academic excellence, success strategies, and valuable tips for navigating through NOUN educational system.

Her motivating speech was aimed at encouraging the new students to focus on their studies, avoid distractions, and uphold moral values, both within and outside the university.

The event, which was concluded with a health awareness session, featured volunteer nursing students who conducted free blood pressure and sugar level check-ups to staff and students.
