The Centre of Excellence in Migration and Global Studies (CEMGS), National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has concluded arrangements to hold its maiden International Conference.
Director of the centre, Prof. Gloria Anetor, in a statement, said that the event will be held from Tuesday, February 11 through Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at the NOUN Headquarters, Jabi, Abuja.
The conference will aim to contribute new knowledge and strategies to the current debates on migration and sustainable development through exchange of theoretical ideas and practical experience among researchers and practitioners in the fields of migration and global studies.
This, sequel to migration flows, is usually based on individual responses to challenges and opportunities in many countries, while the flows, more often than not, create challenges and opportunities for individuals and organisations in the migrant’s origin and destinations.
Anetor explained that the conference, which has its theme: "Migration and Sustainable Development: Problems and Prospects,’’ will witness the convergence of researchers and practitioners in the fields of migration and global studies.
It will also provide a platform on how the intended and unintended consequences of migration could enhance or hinder efforts to achieve sustainable development, and whether it deserves serious attention in the national and international policy agenda.
According to the statement, keynote speech will be delivered by Dr. Emeka Obiezu, OSA, National Coordinator, Civil Society Network on Migration and Development (CSOnetMADE).
The conference will also feature breakout sessions for discussions from research experts in academia, among others.
Meanwhile, NOUN Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, will be the chief-host of the event.
