As part of the statutory responsibilities of ensuring quality assurance and global best practices in the Nigerian tertiary institutions, a team from the National Universities Commission (NUC), led by Prof. J. A. Onimhawo, has on Wednesday, 30th November, 2022 visited Enugu Study Centre, Enugu State, for accreditation of academic programmes.
The team was welcomed by the representative of NOUN Vice-Chancellor, the DVC (Academic), Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma to Enugu.
Uduma said the management of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), was fully committed to doing the right thing in the process of accrediting its academic programmes.
He, therefore, urged the NUC team to use their elders' eyes to look into the bags of NOUN in order for the institution to continue its mandate of expanding the frontier of education to all Nigerians and beyond.
The professor of Philosophy reiterated that NOUN has done its best in preparation for the underway programmes seeking for accreditation, adding that the Heads of Departments (HODs), are ready to cooperate with the NUC team.
Onimhawo, in his response, stated that the visit was to ensure improvements and promote standards in teaching and learning at the institution, adding that their template and ODL experts among them would guide them in the accreditation process of B.A Christian Theology of the Faculty of Arts, NOUN.
Onimhawo, a Professor of Christian Theology, was accompanied by Prof. J.A. Adewara and the NUC representative, Mrs Sandra C. Amuzie, was taken round to inspect and assess the facilities at the centre, led by the Enugu Study Centre director, Prof. Alexander Uche Onyia, Prof. Uduma, the HODs, Christian Theology and Philosophy, Dr Michael Enyinwa Okoronkwo and .Dr Oyekunle O. Adegboyega respectively, the centre's senior staff among others.
The NUC team expressed excitement about the activities of the institution after having interactions with the various units heads at the centre.
The NUC team also commended the university on the currencies of books and journals housed at physical library, even as relevant online materials abound at the e - library.
In a related development, Prof. I. E.Ukpokwo, accompanied by Associate Prof. Peter O. Olayiwoli,and the NUC team, Mrs Blessing Akaba, was in-charge of accreditation of B.A Philosophy of the faculty of Arts.
Ukpokow commended the university management for provisions of the required journals and books as well as online materials.
The representative of the Directorate of Academic Planning (DAP), included Mrs Rachel Owhatnemuhur.
