The Management of the Minna Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has taken its advocacy campaign to the Niger State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).

The advocacy team was led to the command by the centre director, Dr. M. A. Gana and was accompanied by nine other staff from the study centre.

The aim of the visit, Gana said, was to sensitise the staff of FRSC on the programmes and mode of instructional delivery of the Open and Distance Learning system of NOUN as well as to encourage them to take advantage of the ODL programmes offered by the university.

The entourage was received at the office by the Sector Commandant, Mr. Kumar and other staff of the command.

The director informed them that the university is located in their locality and is a federal government institution established in 1983, but was suspended and later resuscitated in 2003 to offer Nigerians the opportunity to experience equitable access to education.

Gana took them through the entry qualifications and procedures which entail learning at one’s own pace, using prepared self-learning course materials and electronic video materials via computers.

He explained that the ODL mode of learning is flexible, expanding education access that increases educational choice for Nigerians and globally.

In his response, Kumar said his commission has an existing cordial relationship with NOUN and noted that officers of the command will soon take advantage of the programmes as he will also like to pursue his PhD with NOUN.

Kumar, however, suggested that a larger advocacy forum is needed for people to be aware of the university and the beneficial programmes of the university.

At the end, staff of the command were also given time to ask questions and make their suggestions which were addressed by the centre director.
