The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Adamawa State Command, has honoured Yola Study Centre of National Open university of Nigeria (NOUN), with an achievement award.
The state commandant, Muhammad Usman Waksha, made the presentation when the advocacy group of the centre visited the command headquarters, Yola, in continuation of its adopted road walk advocacy campaign.
Waksha said the command has deemed it necessary to recognise the exceptional performance and significant contributions of the study centre in taking higher education to the doorstep of the command.
He said NOUN has succeeded in taking education to every nook and cranny of the country being a veritable tool that should be given to every qualified Nigerian, adding that the award would further strengthen the existing relationship between the command and the study centre.
The commandant added that quite a number of officers of the command have enrolled into NOUN and assured the visiting team of his readiness to encourage more officers to enroll and advance their academic qualifications.
Waksha also promised to secure and give the centre the protection whenever the need arises.
In her response, the centre director, Mrs.Tiling Yelyel,expressed her appreciation for the award and thanked the state commandant for his magnanimity in acknowledging the achievements of the study centre.
While explaining the activities of NOUN, Yelyel said with education, the officers’ operation and activities would be enhanced, adding that the university has become a catalyst of increasing human potentials in Nigeria through the operation of ODL mode of leaning.
She urged officers of the command to use this opportunity provided by NOUN to upgrade themselves through quality, affordable and flexible education in NOUN.
The director thanked the commandant for the supports and cooperations given to them to sensitise the men and officers of the command.
