The Yola Study Centre of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has taken campaign for Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode of education to Yola South Local Council of Adamawa State in continuation of its adopted road walk advocacy campaign.

The team, led by the centre director, Mrs. Tiling Yelyel, disclosed that they were at the secretariat to raise awareness and sensitise the leadership of the local government council on the various academic programmes and activities of the university.

Yelyel, who gave a brief history of NOUN, its vision, credibility and the advantages it has over conventional institutions, emphasised that the university remains the only institution capable of admitting thousands of students irrespective of age, location or gender as opposed to conventional ones with limited enrollment capacities.

She said with education, the local government’s staff’s operation and activities would be enhanced when enrolled in NOUN, adding that the university has become a catalyst of increasing human potentials in Nigeria through the operation of ODL.

The director, who reiterated the flexibility and affordability of NOUN as an ODL institution driven by technology-mediated learning process, described the advocacy visit as part of the efforts to increase students enrollment.

An Administrative Officer at the centre, Mr. Paul Okobi, who was assigned to explain the criteria for securing admission into the institution, emphasised the importance of education to any society.

Okobi sensitised about one hundred staff of the local government council on the NOUN courses, admission processes, mode of payment, registration, mode of instructional delivery and on-line facilitation, among others

The chairman of the Local Government, Prof. Abba Tahir, expressed profound appreciation for the awareness about NOUN and promised to advocate for the university to attract more enrollment to the centre.

The chairman, who has a great interest in education, pledged to open a study centre in his LGA as he expressed his readiness to donate land for the establishment of the study centre.

With an impressive attendance during the visit, some LG staff have indicated their interest to secure admission while others trooped in to ask questions and seek clarifications on the grey areas about NOUN.
