10th ACE Anniversary: ACETEL receives AAU-NUC Documentary team

The Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL) has recently hosted a joint team from the Association of African Universities (AAU) and the National Universities Commission (NUC) for a documentary shooting, marking the 10th anniversary of the Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE) project in Nigeria.

The 2-day documentary shoot took place between Monday, August 26 - Tuesday, August 27, 2024  at the centre's office, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) headquarters, Abuja.

The documentary aims to highlight the innovative strides and achievements of ACETEL under the ACE IMPACT Project, which has played a pivotal role in advancing higher education across the region. 

The filming commenced with preparatory meetings on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the ACETEL’s office.

The team included key personnel such as Ms. Lydia Nyame, Team Lead for the AAU ACE Impact Documentary Series; Mr. Edem Hottor, AAU TV Manager; and Mr. Tsutsu Lawrence, a Cinematographer from Ghana. They were joined by members of the NUC-PIU team, including Ms. Yvonne Orekyeh, Communications Lead, and Mr. Nathanael Odaudu, Communications Specialist.

Under the supervision of ACETEL’s Director, Prof. Grace Jokthan, alongside other ACETEL staff members, the team undertook an extensive filming exercise.

A significant segment of the documentary featured an interview with NOUN’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Olufemi Peters, who emphasised on the impact of ACETEL to the university community and underscored the importance of institutional support in the centre’s success.

The documentary crew conducted in-depth interviews with several ACETEL officials, including Professor Grace Jokthan, Professor Christine Ofulue, Research Coordinator; and Dr. Abiodun Adeyinka, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. Other interviews featured ACETEL’s ICT Officer, Mr. Abu Kadafa.

Notably, the documentary spotlighted sectorial and industry partners, as well as ACETEL students both physical and virtual, beneficiaries of ACETEL’s community outreach programmes, including refugees who participated in an IT essentials training workshop held at the Centre for Food Technology and Research (CEFTER) in Benue State. 

An alumnus of ACETEL shared personal insights, highlighting the transformative impact of the Centre’s initiatives.

The crew captured diverse footage, including drone shots of the ACETEL's ongoing building construction site and images of ACETEL’s seven laboratories in operation, documenting the vibrant academic environment and ongoing projects.

In an earlier information sent to ACETEL, Ms. Yvonne Orekyeh, noted that “the documentary will be aired on local, regional and international TV stations and across various social media platforms as part of efforts to boost the visibility of the Nigerian ACE’s and increase regional student enrollment.”
