The management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has directed its staff to proceed on the 2023 election break, thereby putting on hold students' activities within the stipulated period.
This followed the receipt of a circular from the National Universities Commission (NUC) conveying the Hon. Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu's directive for all universities and inter/universities to shut down and academic activities be suspended between Wednesday, 22nd February - Thursday 14th March, 2023.
A memo signed by the Registrar of the university, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi and communicated to all staff and study centres, said "the Governing Council, Senate and Management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has considered the ministerial directives, and therefore decides as follows:
"That the university in compliance with the Hon. ministers directive is closing her doors to all students."
The memo also stated that all study centers should not attend to students requests physically at the various study centers during the period of closure.
"However, all on-line activities most especially facilitation , registration and TMA’s should continue .
“All staff are permitted to be absent from work, two -day before the election and two-day after the election."
For the Presidential and National Assembly Election
Pre- election - Thursday, 23rd- Friday, 24th February, 2023
Post-election - Monday, 27th - Tuesday, 28th February , 2023, to resume work on Wednesday, 1st March 2023.
"Whilst, the Governorship and States House of Assembly election:
Pre -election - Thursday,9th - Friday, 10th March, 2023
Post election - Monday 13th- Tuesday, 14th March, 2023 to resume work on Wednesday, 15th March, 2023.
“Consequently, I therefore , write to inform all staff and students for strict compliance, please," the memo stated.
Furthermore, all Deans, Directors and Centre Directors are enjoined to adhere strictly to the directive and also give it the widest circulation among staff and students.
Meanwhile, full academic activities will resume on Wednesday, 15th March, 2023.
