Community Leaders of Owhrode Town, the host community of Owhrode Community Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Delta State, have promised to provide a permanent site and a befitting administrative block for the centre.
They also pledged to repair all access roads leading to the community and centre to boost enrollment and enable it function optimally.
President-General, Owhrode Community Development Union (OCDU),Mr.Ufuoma Ogheneovo Jonathan, made the pledge in his address to staff and students of the centre shortly after the 27th Matriculation Ceremony of the university, which took place on 8th January, 2025.
Jonathan, who was accompanied to the event by a retinue of members of the executive council of OCDU, also assured staff and students of Owhrode Community Study Centre of their safety in the community.
The President-General was one of the community leaders of thought in Owhrode, who, prior to the Matriculation Ceremony, was visited and invited by the management of the centre, led by the Acting Centre Director, Mrs. Roseline Omale, in the company of Mr. Rogers O. Abumen, a Senior Assistant Registrar (SAR), to grace the Virtual Matriculation Ceremony.
Also speaking, Hon. High Chief Eddy Onosorue, JP, one of the guests at the event, disclosed that he earned his Bachelor and Masters degrees when he was already over 60 years old.
Onosorue advised students of the centre to take their studies seriously and revealed his plans to also enroll for another degree programme at the study centre.
Other speakers who joined the community leaders to admonish the matriculating students were Prof. James Okoro, Rector, Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu and Barr. Joshua Yarhere, who promised the students that he would join them to pursue a Master of Law (LLM) programme in the next semester.
The guests expressed their satisfaction with NOUN's mode of learning that provides access to university education for all.
The ceremony was preceded by an orientation exercise for all students of the centre.
