The Benin Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has honoured its outgoing Centre Director, Dr. Akeem Babatunde Disu, at a colourful send-off ceremony held on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The ceremony, which commenced at about 12:10 p.m., brought together members of staff who gathered to celebrate Disu’s tenure and recognise his contributions to the growth, development and transformation of the centre.
The event featured goodwill messages from staff and representatives of various units within the centre, who took turns to commend the outgoing director for his leadership, commitment and positive impact.
In her valedictory remarks, the Head of Administration, Mrs. Roseline Amakwe, commended Disu for what she described as exemplary leadership, mutual respect and dedication to duty.
She noted that his tenure was marked by significant progress and achievements, adding that his leadership contributed substantially to improving the centre’s infrastructure and creating a more conducive working environment for staff.
Among the major achievements highlighted were the acquisition of a new generator to improve power supply, provision of a corporate vehicle, renovation of centre buildings, installation of solar power and deployment of Wi-Fi connectivity to enhance communication and internet access.
Speakers at the ceremony noted that Disu’s contributions extended beyond physical infrastructure, describing the achievements as evidence of an administration focused on creating an enabling environment for staff to discharge their responsibilities effectively.
“Your impact will not be forgotten,” the staff said in appreciation of his contributions to the centre.
The goodwill messages also reflected the appreciation of staff for Disu’s leadership style and personal interactions throughout his tenure. Members of staff described him as a leader who encouraged commitment to duty while motivating colleagues to pursue personal and professional growth.
They expressed gratitude for his support and the positive working relationships fostered during his administration.
As part of the ceremony, the Head of Administration, on behalf of the centre, presented a gift to the outgoing director in recognition of his service and contributions.
Responding to the goodwill messages and the presentation, Disu expressed appreciation to members of staff for their support, cooperation and kind words throughout his tenure.
He emphasised the importance of teamwork, personal growth and healthy professional relationships, urging staff to remain committed to their responsibilities while continually seeking opportunities for self-improvement and professional development.
According to him, the growth and development of individual members of staff would ultimately contribute to the overall progress and development of the centre.
In his closing remarks, the outgoing director thanked members of staff for their cooperation and support during his tenure and wished them good health, happiness and fulfilment in their personal and professional endeavours.
The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Austin Egbekile, followed by a closing prayer by Mr. Billy Elena.
For staff of the Benin Study Centre, the send-off ceremony was more than a farewell. It was an opportunity to celebrate service, achievement, friendship and leadership, as well as a legacy of transformation they said would remain memorable long after Disu’s tenure.
