Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, CHRD technical staff undergo capacity-building training in Kaduna

The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and the Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD), National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), have hosted an interactive session with Technical Staff of both the faculty and the CHRD toward enhancing training capacity for sustainability.

The lead facilitator and initiator, the Director, Directorate for Entrepreneurship and General Studies NOUN, Dr. Samuel Awolumate, said the programme was designed to strengthen the capacity of technical staff in delivering effective and modern training programmes.

The hybrid event was held at the faculty’s board room and the session witnessed active participation from 91 attendees, including faculty members and the CHRD staffers.

Awolumate emphasised the need for continuous development in training methodologies and equipping facilitators with the requisite tools to address modern agricultural challenges.

The sessions featured insightful presentations and interactive discussions led by distinguished speakers which include Professor Nda Mundi, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, represented by the Deputy Dean, Dr. Ogbonna Sylvanus, as well as Dr. Aderonke Nana Agbo (HOD), and Dr. Samuel Awolumate.

At the end of the sessions, proposed short courses for various agricultural units were developed, including: Animal Science & Fisheries, Feed Formulation, Disease Diagnosis, Prevention, Treatment, and Control.

Poultry Unit: Feed Formulation, Disease Diagnosis, Prevention, Treatment and Control.

Fisheries Unit: Feed Formulation, Disease Diagnosis, Prevention, Treatment, and Control. 

 Livestock Unit: Pasture Management, Ruminant Animal Fattening, Disease Diagnosis, Prevention, Treatment, and Control. 

Agricultural Extension & Economics: Agricultural Technology Transfer Training, Crop Science, NOUN Greenhouse Farming Course, Pepper, Cucumber & Vegetables, Bread and Yogurt Production for Small-Scale Enterprises, Hotel & Catering Services, Food Safety & Hygiene Standards, Catering Business & Management, Hospitality Service Training, Fire Service Training, Fire Safety & Prevention Techniques, Emergency Response & Disaster Management, Handling Firefighting Equipment.

Strategic discussions at the event centred on implementing innovative training solutions, strengthening collaboration, and fostering knowledge-sharing among trainers and facilitators.

In his closing remarks, Awolumate reiterated NOUN’s commitment to continuous professional development and the sustainability of training programmes.

He extended his appreciation to all participants, expressing hope that the training will result in enhancing technical training methodologies for improved learning outcomes.
