FIRS hosts Bauchi centre on advocacy visit

In spite of the ongoing PoP examination, the Bauchi Study Centre of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has taken advocacy campaign of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode of education to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FRIS), North-east Zonal Headquarters, Bauchi, in Bauchi State.

The director of the centre, Dr. Buba Baba Shani, who led a team of staff, said the purpose of their visit was to explain the activities of NOUN to the FIRS staff.

He explained the easy access to higher quality education and flexible learning process of the university via Open and Distance Learning.

He said that the university has been reinvigorated and gazetted which removed all bottlenecks and impediments to its operations.

He added that the university is a federal government-approved institution and is at per with any other university in the country, adding that all its programmes have been fully and duly accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and operates its programmes in full time basis.

He called on the staff to take advantage of the institution to further their education in good time as the university operates without embarking on strike.

Also speaking during the visit, the head of the account unit of the centre Mr. Nasiru Muhammad, reiterated the university's mandate of taking education to every single door step of Nigerians.

While explaining the flexible nature of the university, Muhammad said, the university has come up with Credit Transfer Policy 

which allow the university to admit potential students on transfer into its programmes from accredited national and international institutions.

He also explained how to take virtual examination which is taken from a location other than the physical classroom or exam center, exams on demand and the HND--Bcs convertion policy.

In his response, the HR director,  Mr. Yahaya Muhammad Abubakar who represented the State coordinator, welcomed the team, expressed his appreciation for the sensitisation and awareness about NOUN and promised to encourage staff  to take advantage of the various academic programmes of the university to enroll and advance their academic qualifications.

The team later held an interactive session where they explained the criteria for securing admission into the institution, courses, admission processes, mode of payment, registration, mode of instructional delivery and on-line facilitation, among others.
