The Director of the Kaduna Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Andrew Agbon, has emphasised the importance of cascading staff training to strengthen academic administration, institutional governance and technology-driven service delivery in line with the vision of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Uduma Oji Uduma.
Agbon stated this in an interview with NOUN News during a training session titled “Strengthening Academic Administration, Institutional Governance and Technology-Driven Service Delivery at Study Centres” in Kaduna.
He explained that the initiative was designed to make study centres more learner-focused and transform them into one-stop service points where students can access the support and resources they need for a satisfactory learning experience.
According to him, the training also seeks to sensitise staff to the Vice-Chancellor’s vision and encourage them to work collaboratively towards achieving the University’s mission and objectives.
He stressed that every staff member was a stakeholder in the growth and development of NOUN, adding that cascading the training to the study centre level would enhance staff efficiency, improve productivity and strengthen service delivery.
Agbon disclosed that the exercise was the first in a series of training sessions planned for the centre, noting that regular capacity-building programmes would become a tradition to keep staff knowledge and skills up to date.
Speaking on the expected outcomes, he said the training would equip staff to serve students more effectively, meet the University's expectations and demonstrate greater commitment to their responsibilities.
“The training will no doubt ensure that the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are fully implemented,” Agbon said.
