The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has recorded another round of leadership transitions following the appointment of new directors for some study centres in the North-Central region.
The affected centres are the NURTW Special Study Centre, Garki, Abuja; the Special Study Centre for the Nigerian Police, Dei-Dei, Abuja; and the Offa Community Study Centre, Kwara State.
The changes followed a directive by the University Management contained in a memo signed by the Registrar and dated August 4, 2026, announcing the appointment of new Centre Directors for various study centres nationwide.
At the NURTW Special Study Centre, Garki, the outgoing Director, Dr. Paul Ifeanyi, formally handed over to the newly appointed Director, Associate Professor Ukoha O. Igwe, in the presence of members of staff.
In his farewell remarks, Dr. Ifeanyi thanked the staff for their cooperation, support and commitment throughout his tenure.
He urged them to extend the same spirit of teamwork and dedication to the new administration, stressing that collective support would be crucial to achieving greater success at the centre.
On his part, Associate Professor Igwe pledged to bring his wealth of experience as a former principal officer and Director of the University to bear on the administration of the centre.
He identified increased student enrolment and improved infrastructure as key areas that would receive priority attention under his leadership.
Igwe also charged members of staff to place students at the centre of their daily activities and to avoid actions capable of bringing the university into disrepute.
At the Special Study Centre for the Nigerian Police, Dei-Dei, Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Gaddafi formally handed over the leadership of the centre to the newly appointed Director, Dr. Felix Adakole Odike.
The ceremony provided an opportunity for staff and students to celebrate Dr. Gaddafi’s contributions during his tenure.
His leadership was credited with making significant contributions to the academic and administrative development of the centre, while his commitment to staff and student welfare, effective coordination and dedication to institutional growth earned him widespread commendation.
Members of staff and students described the outgoing Director as humble, accessible, diligent and supportive, noting that his departure would be deeply felt by the centre community.
The centre warmly welcomed Dr. Odike, expressing confidence that his leadership would build on the achievements of his predecessor and usher in another phase of growth and progress.
Staff and students pledged their support and cooperation as he assumed the responsibilities of office.
Similarly, the Offa Community Study Centre, Kwara State, witnessed the formal transfer of leadership from the outgoing Director, Mrs. Temidayo Adeleke, to the newly appointed Director, Professor Abdulateef A. Adelakun.
In her remarks, Mrs. Adeleke expressed appreciation to the University Management and staff of the centre for the support, cooperation and commitment she received throughout her tenure.
She described her time as director as a privilege and a rewarding experience, commending the staff for their dedication, teamwork and commitment to the smooth running of the centre and the welfare of students.
Mrs. Adeleke expressed confidence in the ability of the incoming director to steer the affairs of the centre and encouraged members of staff to extend their full cooperation and support to the new administration.
Professor Adelakun, after taking over, commended Mrs. Adeleke for her service, leadership and contributions to the development of the Offa Community Study Centre.
He pledged to consolidate the achievements of the previous administration and called for mutual respect, cooperation, dedication and teamwork among members of staff.
Professor Adelakun further solicited the support and commitment of staff, assuring them of his openness, accessibility and determination to maintain a cordial and productive working environment.
