The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), through its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the African Union (AU), will commemorate the 2026 African Union Anti-Corruption Day with a high-level programme aimed at promoting integrity and strengthening anti-corruption efforts across the continent.
The event, themed "Scaling Up the Promotion of Integrity and Anti-Corruption Actions Across Africa," is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ground Floor Conference Room, Senate Building, NOUN Headquarters, Jabi, Abuja.
African Union Anti-Corruption Day is observed annually on July 11 following the adoption of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption.
The annual commemoration provides an opportunity for governments, institutions and stakeholders to assess progress made in the fight against corruption while exploring more effective strategies to curb the menace across the continent.
The 2026 celebration at NOUN will feature a keynote address by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, as well as a presentation on the event's theme by the Director of the Olusegun Obasanjo Centre for African Studies, Prof. Wilfred N. J. Ugwuanyi.
Other highlights of the programme include an inter-study centre debate competition involving students from the Wuse II Study Centre and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Special Study Centre, Sauka, alongside other activities designed to promote ethical values and accountability.
The Head/Chair of NOUN-ACTU, Mrs. Doris Nzenwa, will serve as the host, while the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, will be the Chief Host.
According to the organisers, the 2026 commemoration seeks to encourage anti-corruption stakeholders to reflect on existing strategies, identify innovative approaches to combating corruption, and intensify efforts to promote integrity across Africa.
It also aims to raise public awareness on the importance of upholding integrity in both public and private life while encouraging citizens to demand accountability and transparency.
