The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has commended the Special Study Centre for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sauka, Abuja, for its commitment to quality service delivery following an official monitoring and assessment visit by the university's Quality Assurance team.
The visit formed part of the university's ongoing efforts to strengthen quality service delivery, ensure compliance with institutional standards, and reinforce its commitment to maintaining academic excellence across all study centres.
The Quality Assurance team, led by Professor Sami M. Ayodele, was received by the Centre Director, Dr. Francis Enobore Osagiede, Controller of Corrections (Rtd), alongside members of staff.
In his presentation, Dr. Enobore highlighted the centre's history, achievements, challenges, and its unique role in advancing NOUN's mandate of providing accessible, quality education to inmates, correctional personnel, and the wider community.
Speaking during the visit, Prof. Ayodele outlined the objectives of the university's Quality Assurance Policy, emphasising the need for strict adherence to work ethics and standard operating procedures.
He noted that compliance with these standards is vital to sustaining excellence in the increasingly competitive Open and Distance Learning (ODL) environment.
Responding, Dr. Enobore lauded the University Management for establishing a robust quality assurance framework that promotes standardised operations and improved service delivery across NOUN study centres.
He described the framework as critical to preserving the university's academic integrity, distinctiveness, and reputation.
As part of the exercise, the team assessed the centre's academic support services, including student counselling, ICT support, examination administration, and the availability of learning resources.
The Student Counselling Unit showcased its range of services, including academic, personal and career counselling, admissions and registration support, orientation programmes for new students, and continuous learner guidance designed to enhance success within the ODL system.
The team also evaluated the centre's compliance with NOUN's quality assurance benchmarks and made recommendations to further improve service delivery. These included comprehensive documentation of student support services, continuous staff capacity development, regular maintenance of facilities, greater deployment of digital technologies, and sustained commitment to learner-centred education.
The monitoring exercise concluded with an interactive session between the Quality Assurance team and centre staff.
The team commended the Study Centre for its dedication to providing timely guidance, effective academic support, and quality learning services, noting that its efforts align with NOUN's vision of delivering accessible, high-quality education through excellence in service.
