The Special Study Centre for the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has taken its advocacy campaign to Chief of Garki, HRH Alhaji Usman Nga-Kupi’s palace in Abuja.

The advocacy visit, according to the director, was aimed at informing the chief about the existence of the centre which is under his domain.

The team led to the palace by the Centre Director, Mrs. Patience Abimbola Adeniyi, explained to the chief the benefits Open and Distance Learning offers to any learner studying with the university.

She stated that as an enlightened man and the centre being in his domain, the people of the area should to take advantage of the opportunity offered by NOUN to also be enlightened.

Adeniyi also encouraged them to make use of the flexibility mode of study the university offers while working and learn from the comfort of their homes with the use of technology, which does not restrict a person to a place and time.

The director further informed her host of the various programmes the university offers from degree to Ph.D. levels, explaining that the people can take advantages of such programmes to upgrade themselves.

In his response, Chief Nga-kupi expressed his delight for the location of the university in his domain and assuring that he will encourage his children and wards to enroll in the university.

He said as an educationist, a teacher for about 30 years, he knows the value and importance attached to education, thereby placing him at the position needed to collaborate with the university for the benefit of his people.

While disclosing that he would be the mouthpiece of the university, the emir added that he will surely encourage his chiefs to take advantage of the opportunity, which, in the coming days, the centre will begin to notice the enrollment boom.

He said if not for time constraint he would have loved to enroll in one of the Ph.D. programmes with the university, urging the centre, however, to take the palace and everything around as one family.
