The Pro-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria, Mallam Isa Yuguda, has said that Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode of education is now the mainstay of modern higher education.
He stated this at the 15th Convocation Ceremony of the university, held at the its headquarters in Jabi, Abuja on April 18, 2026.
NOUN graduated a record 24, 575 students at the ceremony, with 57 graduating with First Class and 56 inmate who graduated from various correctional centres nationwide.
Yuguda, who is a former Governor of Bauchi State, said at this time Nigeria needs graduates to be critical, responsible, and contribute to peace.
He said graduates are expected to uphold integrity and contribute to national progress, expressing that the 15th convocation ceremony marked a significant milestone for the National Open University of Nigeria.
He emphasised that the university requires self-motivation, management, and personal commitment to help the school in its development.
To the graduates, he said, the university celebrates their perseverance, sacrifice, and achievements, and that they are expected to uphold integrity and contribute to national progress.
He urged them to be ambassadors of the university's values and ethics.
The Pro-Chancellor said the good reputation of the university is due to the support and contribution it gets from the federal government.
