The Director, Port Harcourt Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Theresa Ucheoma Ettu, has charged security personnel of the centre to work as a team devoid of bitterness or badmouthing amongst their ranks.

Ettu gave the charge at a meeting held with the security operatives of the centre in her office on Monday, January 20, 2025.

She reminded the officers of the two cardinal agenda she unveiled upon her assumption of office as director, were to entrench wholesome and harmonious interpersonal relationship among the workforce of the centre.

The agenda also urged staffers to make the place conducive for learning for the students, adding that the principles behind the agenda must be observed and upheld at all times.

Ettu further admonished the staff to eschew badmouthing and to do all they can to close ranks as a team in order to achieve results in their assigned job roles.

The director, who is a veteran and seasoned counselor, observed that one of the causes of conflict among the security personnel at Port Harcourt Study Centre was the exhibition of personal ego.

She counseled that an environment in which every security operative seeks to exert his/her own authority without control cannot be devoid of acrimony, conflict and confusion.

Ettu charged them to be circumspect in managing their utterances at workplace, recognise hierarchy of authority and be professional in their conducts.

Responding on behalf of the security personnel, the Head of Security Unit, Mr. Richard Akpan Monday, apologised for any professional bridges that may have been observed and promised to ensure order and professionalism in the unit.

Two of the operatives who were at odds with each other resolved their differences and pledged to work together in harmony as a team.
