Ilaro Community Study Centre utilises NTI facility for advocacy campaign

The Ilaro Community Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has taken advantage of the National Teachers Institute (NTl) facility to advocate for enrollment into the university.

The advocacy event was held at the proposed centre of the NTI, which became an avenue for the Acting Director, Mr. Ayokunle Moses Ola, NOUN facilitator, Prof.Ahmed Adeyanju, in conjunction with other stakeholders, to advocate for NOUN and its programmes.

The director said "both the university and the institute (NTI) operate Open and Distance Learning (ODL), which over time encouraged the rapid growth, knowledge, skills, timely education and training for nationa, human resources and accessibility to a variety of people most especially those who are disadvantaged and under-represented", he said.

In addition, Ola laid emphasis on both the mission and vision of NOUN, as the university provides highly accessible and enhanced quality education, anchored on social justice, equity, equality and national cohesion, and emphasised on the flexibility, functionality and cost-effectiveness of the university.

He assured the gathering of the university's strike-free academic programme that makes it unique, functional and time-bound.

The director stressed that the NOUN has been at the forefront, providing access to the remote and usually inaccessible or underrepresented groups such as women, rural and remote dwellers, who otherwise would have been denied tertiary education.

He therefore encouraged all products of NTI to further their studies in NOUN with a view of possessing higher degrees, which, among other benefits, will afford them promotion in their various places of work.

The centre's management team was also engaged in a courtesy visit to the Divisional Police Station in the area where the Divisional Police Office (DPO), Mr Onyema Gabriel Ikechukwu, who recently concluded his postgraduate programme in Criminology and Security Studies, was encouraged to pursue a higher degree in the university, while others were also encouraged to enrol with choice of their programme.
