The Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Olufemi Peters, has visited the family of late Professor Ahmad Njidda where he offered his condolences over the loss of the professor and former Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.
Njidda died in a ghastly motor accident along the Abuja - Kaduna expressway on August 17, 2024.
While extending his condolences to the family in Kaduna, the Vice-Chancellor, through his representative, the University Bursar, Mal. Nasiru G. Marafa, described the sudden death of the dean as a great loss not only to his family, NOUN community, but the humanity in general.
The VC recalled with nostalgia the tremendous contributions the professor made in his area of specialisation in his lifetime.
Peters further described the late dean as a hard-working man, whom every organisation will cherish having and working with.
He therefore prayed the Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, shower the family the wisdom and mental strength to bear the irreplaceable loss.
Regarding the appeal tendered by the deceased's family, the Vice-Chancellor assured that the university management would do all it could within its capacity to provide support.
On his part, the Director, Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD), Dr. Aminu Umar, assured the family of every support they may require especially that the deceased's wife needs a lot of support at this time.
Speaking earlier behalf of the family, the wife's elder brother Mr. Mas'ud Yusuf, extended his appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and management of the university for their continued kind gesture to the family.
Yusuf appealed to the management on behalf of the deceased's family to remain in Kaduna Campus for now.
Being the late dean's wife a graduate, he further appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to assist her with an opportunity which may help her cater for the needs of her children.
"I hope our request will be granted duly consideration," he said.
He, therefore, thanked the NOUN VC, management and other staff for their continued support they have been rendering since the occurrence of the sadden event.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the Director, Kaduna Study Centre, Dr. Babangida Iro, Dr. Aminu Umar of CHRD, Professor Nda E. Mundi, Academic Staff of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, as well as the non-teaching staff of the centre and the faculty.
Late professor Njidda left behind a wife and three children named: Hamdan Ahmad Njidda, Abeer Ahmad Njidda and Afreem Ahmad Njidda, aged seven, four and two, respectively.
The VC, later took a facility tour at the Kaduna Study Centre.
