The Bauchi Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has paid an advocacy visit to the Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The centre used the visit to showcase its academic programmes and urged officers to take advantage of open and distance learning opportunities.
The advocacy team, led by the Centre Director, Dr. Madu Galadima, said the visit was aimed at familiarising the command with the centre’s new management, sensitising its personnel, and consolidating the existing relationship between both institutions.
Galadima explained that NOUN is committed to breaking barriers to education, with over 100 study centres across the country and more than 1,000 courses available to learners.
According to him, the university’s mandate is to bring education to the doorstep of every Nigerian, including women in pudder, security personnel, and the unreachable groups.
While highlighting NOUN’s flexible learning system, he stated that the institution conducts two forms of examinations —Pen-on-Paper (POP) and Computer-Based Tests (CBT)—beach held twice yearly.
Galadima added that students have access to digital learning resources and physical hard copies of study materials for better understanding.
The director also outlined the admission process, stressing that NOUN welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds.
He encouraged officers and men of the NSCDC to upgrade their academic qualifications, noting that education remains the key to success in all human endeavours.
Galadima reaffirmed NOUN’s willingness to partner with the corps, stressing that the university serves as a training ground for professionals in diverse fields, including security and management.

In his remarks, the NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Oloyede Nelson, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as an eye-opener.
Nelson admitted that he had previously assumed that NOUN relied exclusively on computer-based examinations and was meant only for working professionals.
The clarification, he said, had corrected such misconceptions.
The commandant assured the advocacy team that he would encourage officers to pursue higher education through NOUN.
He also pledged the command’s readiness to collaborate with the university, particularly in staff training and development, while commending the institution’s role in professional capacity building.
