Director, Directorate of Information Communication and Technology (DICT), National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Francis Osang, has inspected the fibre optic project at the Enugu Study Centre in Enugu State.
Osang’s visit on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 received a warm welcome from the centre director, Prof. Charity Akuadi Okonkwo and other staff, who then took them on a tour of the centre's facilities.
While describing Enugu Study Centre as a key hub in the South-east geopolitical zone, Osang also noted that it serves as a link with other centres in the region and the headquarters.
The fibre optic project, sponsored by TETfund, connects all designated study centres to the headquarters, providing high-speed internet access that students and staff can utilise when visiting these centres.
He noted that students at the centres can now conduct research and complete assignments using their phones, even without affording mobile data, thanks to the internet connectivity.
The project, Osang said, is one of the notable initiatives implemented under the leadership of the current Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Prof. Olufemi Peters, highlighting the university's commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure for improved learning experiences.
Equally, he inspected the fibre optic installation at Awka Study Centre in Anambra State, under the watchful eyes of the centre director, Dr. Bibian Ugoala.
