NUC begins accreditation exercise, visits Wuse, Enugu Centres

A team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) has visited the Wuse II Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja, to conduct an accreditation exercise for the B.A English Language programme under the Faculty of Arts.

Similarly, another team from the commission also visited Enugu Study Centre of the university for the accreditation of B.Sc Information System & Technology in the Faculty of Computing.   

The accreditation exercise, according to the NUC team, which visited Wuse II Study Centre on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, is part of its ongoing commitment to ensuring that university programmes across the country meet the required standards of quality and academic excellence.

The four-member accreditation panel was led by Prof. Cecilia Odejobi of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), with Prof. Tenafo Ebijue, Prof. Idom Ilyabri of the University of Calabar, and Mrs. Eucharia Chinyere, representing the NUC forming the entourage.

During the visit, the NUC officials were received by the Wuse II Centre Director, Prof. Olusegun Adeleke Oba-Adenuga, alongside Mrs. Millie Elizabeth Odutokun, Deputy Registrar, and Mr. Dele Durojaiye, Deputy Bursar.

Also in attendance were representatives from NOUN headquarters, including Dr. Felicia Oamen, Head of the Department of English Language, and Prof. Gregory Okagbare, Director, Directorate of Academic Planning.

Prof. Oba-Adenuga led the accreditation team on a tour of centre’s facilities, where they assessed the learning environment, library resources, counselling unit, store, and the Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) Unit.

After a thorough inspections and interactions, the team expressed satisfaction with the facilities and academic resources available for the English Language programme.

In the same vein, similar team of the commission, led by Prof. Ameen Ahmed Oloduowo, on Thursday, November 13, 2025 visited the Enugu Study Centre to undertake the exercise.

Oloduowo, accompanied by Prof. Ruphina Nwachukwu and the NUC representative, Mrs. Chinweogo Tukura, were accorded a warm welcome by the Centre Director,  Prof. Charity Akuadi Okonkwo, centre's senior staff, senior Academic Planning Officer, Dr. Chioma P.Onuoha, Head of Department, Information System & Technology, Dr. Vivian O. Nwaocha and a departmental member, Dr. Christiana U. Ezeanya. 

The NUC team visited the physical and e-library unit, e-exam hall, store unit, Pen-on-Paper exam hall, Network Laboratory Unit, conveniences and expressed excitement about the interactions with the unit heads. 

While commending the Assistant Librarian, Mr. Jude Sunday Onuh, for demonstrating the use of databases in retrieval of information resources for the users at the e-library, the NUC team also hailed the centre for the availability of current textbooks and journals at the physical library. 

Equally, at the e-exam hall, the team was highly impressed by the massive and functional computer systems designated for the e-exam users, and the fact that the centre continues to play host for JAMB Computer Based Test(CBT) and other promotional exams for corporate organisations. 

Oloduowo said the academic programme for accreditation by the team was B.Sc Information System & Technology in the Faculty of Computing.  

The NUC team also interacted separately with the students and facilitators of Information System & Technology, based on the activities of NOUN as it concerns students and facilitators.
