The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, has received a strong delegation from Mosogar Kingdom in Delta State seeking the establishment of a study centre in the community.
The delegation, which represented His Royal Majesty, Uduaka I, Ovie of Mosogar Kingdom, was led by the Secretary of the kingdom, Chief Silver Anuwa.
Speaking on behalf of the monarch, Chief Anuwa said the community's quest to establish a NOUN Study Centre commenced last year as part of efforts to expand access to higher education in the area.
According to him, Mosogar, located in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, has a long-standing reputation for valuing education and producing highly accomplished professionals across various fields.
He noted that although several conventional tertiary institutions exist within and around the state, opportunities for open and distance learning remain limited, making the establishment of a NOUN Study Centre in the community imperative.
Chief Anuwa disclosed that the kingdom formally applied to host a NOUN Study Centre in December 2025 and assured the university management that the required infrastructure and facilities were already in place.
He emphasised the community's readiness and eagerness to commence academic activities as soon as approval is granted.
Responding on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Shehu Usman Adamu, expressed appreciation to the people of Mosogar Kingdom for identifying with NOUN's mission of providing quality, accessible and affordable education to all.
He assured the delegation that the university would give the request due consideration and would first dispatch a team to assess and verify the facilities and infrastructure available in the community.
Professor Adamu further disclosed that the Vice-Chancellor had approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to clearly define the responsibilities and expectations of both parties.
He also encouraged the community to sponsor the first set of students as a way of motivating others and ensuring a successful take-off of the proposed study centre.
In his remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Chiedu Mafiana, commended the delegation for its commitment to educational development and expressed confidence in the community's ability to meet the requirements for the establishment of the study centre.
The visit concluded with a vote of thanks delivered on behalf of the Registrar, Mr. Ladipo Ajayi, by the Director of Staff Training and Development (ST&D), Mrs. Eunice Riki.
She appreciated the delegation for its interest in partnering with the university to expand educational opportunities in the region.
