The outgoing Director of the Directorate of Media and Publicity (DMP), National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Ibrahim Sheme, has formally handed over the affairs of the directorate to Mrs. Omotola Ojudu.
The brief ceremony, which took place on Thursday, June 25, 2026, followed his redeployment to a new assignment within the university by the Vice-Chancellor.
Consequently, Mrs. Ojudu was appointed Acting Director of Media and Publicity Directorate by the university management with effect from June 9, 2026.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the university's headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, Dr. Sheme reflected on his decade-long stewardship of the directorate and expressed confidence in his successor's ability to sustain and build upon his achievements.
He described the accomplishments recorded during his tenure as the product of teamwork, dedication and collective commitment, commending members of staff for their unwavering support and professionalism over the years.
According to him, the principles of inclusiveness, mutual respect and shared responsibility played significant roles in the successes recorded by the directorate.
Dr. Sheme urged staff members to extend their full cooperation to the new director to enable her consolidate on existing gains and take the directorate to greater heights.
"I am not leaving anybody behind. We are still one family, and you should not hesitate to call on me whenever the need arises," he said, assuring the directorate of his continued support and mentorship.
In her response, Mrs. Ojudu paid glowing tribute to Dr. Sheme for his exemplary leadership, dedication and immense contributions to the growth of both the directorate and the university.
She noted that his vast experience in journalism and public communication had left an enduring legacy within the directorate, adding that his guidance and counsel would continue to be invaluable.
"We appreciate your selfless service and the solid foundation you have built. Whenever the need arises, we will continue to seek your counsel and support," she said.
It could be recalled that Sheme was appointed Director of Media and Publicity during the reigns of the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu in. 2016 and served in the position until his latest redeployment.
.He has now assumed a new role at the International Media and Information Literacy Institute (IMILI), a UNESCO-backed institute hosted by the National Open University of Nigeria in Abuja.
