The Director of the Learner Support Services (DLSS), at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Tessy Angba, has pledged the university’s commitment to improving learner support services across all study centres.
Prof. Angba stated this on Friday, July 31, 2026, during an official visit to the Port Harcourt Study Centre as part of the Directorate’s ongoing nationwide engagements.
She inspected key facilities at the centre, including examination halls, the library, store, Students’ Support Centre, Counselling Office, and administrative offices.
The director expressed satisfaction with the state of the facilities and commended the centre for maintaining a clean and conducive learning environment.
Prof. Angba was received by the Centre Director, Dr. Theresa Ucheoma Ettu, who conducted her round the facilities before an interactive session with staff.
While addressing the staff, she conveyed the goodwill of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, even as she described the Port Harcourt Study Centre as one of NOUN’s flagship centres.
The director lauded the staff for their dedication to service delivery.
“The Directorate of Learner Support Services is not on a witch-hunting mission. We are committed to making the learner experience in NOUN smooth, supportive, and successful,” she said.
Prof. Angba stressed that students remain the university’s primary clients and that study centres represent the public face of the institution.
She urged staff to maintain high standards and pay special attention to students living with disabilities and other special needs.
Prof. Angba also charged the centre to embark on periodic visits to the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre to provide academic and learner support to inmates enrolled in NOUN.
During the interactive session, staff made suggestions on improving service delivery, which the director gave assurances that all observations would be documented and forwarded to the appropriate authorities for action.
She added that the visit was part of DLSS’ commitment to identifying best practices and enhancing the overall student experience across all NOUN study centres nationwide.
