The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Uyo Study Centre, has witnessed a change of leadership following the reshuffle exercise Centre Directors by the University Management nationwide.
Dr. Edwin Okpa Bassey formally handed over the leadership of the centre to Dr. Uduak Irene Aletan, who assumed office as the new Centre Director on August 21, 2026.
Reflecting on his tenure, Dr. Bassey expressed profound gratitude to the University Management for the opportunity and privilege to serve.
He also thanked the staff and students of the Uyo Study Centre for their loyalty, cooperation, encouragement and unwavering support throughout his tenure.
The outgoing Director said the achievements recorded under his administration were the product of the collective efforts, sacrifices and commitment of members of the centre community.
He expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and the memorable experiences shared during his period of service.
As he handed over the reins, Dr. Bassey appealed to staff and students to extend to his successor the same spirit of cooperation, understanding and support he enjoyed during his tenure.
He urged members of the Centre community to remain united and committed to the continued growth and development of the centre and the University at large.
Bassey also welcomed Dr. Aletan to her new role and wished her a fruitful, rewarding and impactful tenure.
In her inaugural remarks, Dr. Aletan charged members of staff to remain committed to the diligent discharge of their responsibilities, guided by professionalism, integrity and the fear of God.
She emphasised the need for staff to uphold the confidence and trust reposed in them by the University Management.
The new Centre Director also encouraged students to remain focused and committed to their academic pursuits, assuring them of her commitment to providing purposeful leadership and fostering an environment conducive to their academic progress and overall success.
Aletan called on the entire centre community to embrace a new chapter of growth, collaboration and excellence under her administration.
The centre staffers congratulated Dr. Aletan on her assumption of office and expressed appreciation to Dr. Bassey for his service, leadership and dedication.
