Newly admitted students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) have been urged to embrace discipline, commitment and determination as they begin their academic journey at the university.
The call was made during orientation programmes organised for students admitted for the 2026_2 academic session at the Wuse II Study Centre and the Special Study Centre, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Gwagwalada, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
At the Wuse II Study Centre, the orientation programme brought together newly admitted undergraduate and postgraduate students to familiarise them with the requirements of studying in an open and distance learning (ODL) environment.
Welcoming the students, the Study Centre Director, Prof. Angela Ebele Udeoji, congratulated them on their admission, describing their decision to pursue higher education through NOUN as a significant step towards achieving their academic and personal aspirations.

Udeoji urged the students to remain disciplined, motivated and committed throughout their programmes, noting that success in open and distance learning requires learners to take responsibility for their studies.
She assured them that the study centre would provide the necessary guidance and support to help them navigate their academic programmes successfully.
The Centre Director also explained key aspects of studying at NOUN, equipping the students with essential information to help them adapt to the university’s flexible learning system and make informed decisions throughout their academic journey.

The programme continued with presentations by heads of various units, who provided further information on the academic processes, services and support structures available to students.
Similarly, newly admitted students at the Special Study Centre, Nigeria Immigration Service, Gwagwalada, were welcomed and encouraged as they commenced their studies.
The Centre Director, Prof. Aminu Kazeem Ibrahim, welcomed the students and wished them success throughout their period of study at the university.
The orientation programmes provided the students with opportunities to understand their academic responsibilities, seek clarification on issues relating to their studies and familiarise themselves with the support services available to them.
Beyond marking the beginning of a new academic session, the programmes represented an important first step towards achieving their educational goals, acquiring new skills and positioning themselves for greater opportunities.
The activities at the two centres underscore NOUN’s commitment to equipping newly admitted students with the information, guidance and support needed to begin their studies confidently and navigate their academic programmes successfully.
