The chairman, Patani Local Government Area, Delta State, Hon. Isaac Aguana, has announced an award of full scholarship to 10 indigenes of the Local Government area who have secured admission to any programme at the Patani Community Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
Announcing this in his chat with the acting director of the centre, Mr. Douye Koroye, in the later’s office on Friday, September 16, 2022, the chairman, Scholarship Committee of the council, Dr. Charles Ariye, who spoke on behalf of Aguana, explained that the 10 beneficiaries of the scheme would be drawn from the 10 wards making the Local Government Area, with each ward represented by one beneficiary.
Ariye further elaborated that the conditions each beneficiary must fulfill to get qualified for the award are he/she must be a proven indigene of Patani Local Government Area, must have secured admission at the National Open University of Nigeria, Patani Community Study Centre, with an admission letter as proof, and must have five Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) credits in relevant subjects including Mathematics and English Language.
The scholarship committee chair reiterated that the scholarship would be fully funded by the local government chairman, who has already concluded arrangement to open a dedicated account for that purpose at NOUN Headquarters in Abuja to forestall the possibility of the scheme getting truncated in an event of his vacating the office as the council chair.
Reacting to the heartwarming news, Koroye commended Aguana for a well-thought-out initiative and his patriotic bend to invest selflessly in the human capital development of his people.
He also lauded Ariye and his team, in the Scholarship Committee, for their commitment to ensuring that the lofty project of intellectual empowerment of the people of Patani Local Government Area birthed by a selfless visionary like Aguana is translated into reality for the development and progress of the local government area.
