The Coordinator, South-east Conference Marking Zone and Dean, Faculty of Law, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Ernest Ugbejeh, has said the exercise is a serious assignment which requires diligence and commitment within the stipulated time-frame.
He disclosed this while briefing the examiners during the 2023_1 conference marking, which commenced on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 in the South-east zone in Enugu State.
Ugbejeh, while stating that only Ph.D degree holders are qualified for participation in the marking exercise, he advised the markers who would not be able to meet with the deadline of scripts submission to kindly decline.
"It is important to note that examiners are expected to be meticulous, thorough and careful in ensuring that scripts allocated to them are checked, counted, documented and jealously protected. This is premised on the fact that many destinies depend on the outcome of results,", the coordinator stressed.
The dean informed them to collect marking guides from their respective subject officers and appealed to them to cooperate with the subject officers.
He added that the subject officers are poised towards serving them better and, therefore, called on them to contact him if there are challenges for prompt attention.
The director, Enugu Study Centre, Prof. Alexander Uche Onyia, in his appeal to the examiners, stated the importance of providing accurate and correct account details for prompt payment.
Representatives of the DEA at the zone were Adebayo Kayode and Ene Victoria Ebute, for provision of logistics, while Tijani Suleiman represents the DMIS, for technical support.
Earlier, the coordinator had briefed the subject officers drawn from the eight faculties of the university and canvassed for team work among them.
According to him, the subject officers are expected to be firm and thorough in the discharge of their duties and at the same time accord due respect to the markers, describing them as "our colleagues " in the Nigerian universities.
He charged them to put in their best to achieve a huge success in the exercise.
