The 15th Convocation Ceremony of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has been scheduled to hold on Saturday, April 18, 2026, according to an announcement by the Registrar of the university, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi.
A total of 24,575 students of the university will graduate at the ceremony, cutting across the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degree programmes from various faculties of the university.
The ceremony will be preceded by a Convocation Lecture, which will be delivered by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Barrister Kanu Godwin Agabi, on Friday, April 17, 2026 by 11am.
He will present on the topic: “Nigeria Against Corruption.”
Kanu Godwin Agabi, CON, SAN, is a Nigerian lawyer and politician who was a Senator, and was twice Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the federation during the presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo. Agabi was appointed a Senior Advocate of Nigeria on 15 September 1997.
Barrister Kanu Godwin Agabi, one of Nigeria’s foremost legal practitioners, is a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria.
He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria since 1997, and a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice for the Federal Republic of Nigeria, where he distinguished himself as the Chief Legal Officer for Nigeria. His rich and wide experience in the legal profession spans a period of over 40 years.
He specialises in constitutional law, criminal law, administrative, commercial law and practice. Others include electoral law and practice, public and international law and general litigation.
Kanu Agabi is currently the Principal Partner at Kanu G. Agabi & Associates, a leading law firm in Nigeria.
A holder of the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) for his contribution to national building.
Kanu Agabi is also a former Minister of Solid Minerals Development and Special Adviser to the President on Ethics and Good Governance.
The announcement also said the ceremony will be conducted both on-site and off-site as those billed to attend the on-site event were urged to be seated not later than 9am at the university’s Convocation Arena, Jabi, Abuja.
The Convocation Ceremony, where the graduands would be awarded various degrees, will hold on Saturday, April 18 by 10am at the Convocation Arena of the university, the announcement said.
It added that only First-Class graduands, award winners, Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) graduands, Master’s degree graduands, Doctorate and Honorary Doctorate graduands are to attend the on-site ceremony at the Convocation Arena, university headquarters in Abuja.
All other first-degree graduands from all study centres, including those in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) shall participate in the ceremonies at their respective state capital study centres, the announcement explained.
Graduands are hereby informed that certificates would be made available for collection immediately after the convocation ceremonies at the university headquarters, Abuja and at their respective state capital study centre.
Additionally, graduands from study centres within Abuja are to collect their certificates at the university’s Abuja Model Study Centre, Kubuwa, Abuja, it added.
