The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has received an invitation to participate in onboarding of its students into the Global Awareness Programme (GAP).

The virtual national pilot programme was designed to complement Nigerian students’ existing education facilities and help equip them with the critical knowledge and tools needed to navigate a rapidly changing 21st Century.

The programme, developed by GIFT.ed, in collaboration with the National Universities Commission (NUC) and supported by the World Bank, is designed to complement university education by fostering knowledge on global trends, sustainability, and technological innovation.

GAP aims to prepare Nigerian university students to navigate the global challenges shaping their future.

Over the course of 13 self-paced modules, comprising approximately 6 hours of learning, from May to November 2025, students will explore key areas including: Global shifts and megatrends, Sustainability and climate change, and Innovation and emerging technologies.

Full details of the programme can be found in the Programme Overview or the dedicated GAP webpage.

The delivery format of the programme will be fully online, accessible via mobile or desktop, hosted on the GIFT.ed virtual learning platform with unique licenses allocated to each participating student.

Expected time to be spent on lectures is approximately 45 minutes per week for over 13 modules and students can progress at their own pace within the programme timeline.

Students will have self-paced modules featuring expert videos, articles, and interactive exercises, including a national mini-project challenge and digital certificate endorsed by NUC and GIFT.ed.

The duration of the programme, which includes orientation, learning phase, project period, and final recognition, is from May to November, 2025.

The programme is entirely free for both the universities and students, as all platform access, learning content, and support are also fully provided.

This programme was targeted towards the Africa Centre of Excellence (ACE) Impact and Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement Project  (SPESSE) Universities.
