The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has dissociated the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Ojo Uduma, from certain social media handles that impersonate the Vice-Chancellor to defraud the unsuspecting members of the public.

The university said through a disclaimer on Thursday, May 21, 2026, which was signed by the Head of New Media, Mr. Ambrose Bernard Gowong, that the social media accounts were fraudulent and implored the general public to desist from doing any engagement with them.

It stated that “The attention of the National Open University of Nigeria [NOUN] and the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, has been drawn to several fake social media accounts operating on X [formerly Twitter], Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms.

The general public is hereby notified that these accounts do not belong to, nor are they operated by, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma.

The Vice-Chancellor, according to the disclaimer “ does not currently operate any personal social media account for official university business.

NOUN added that “the said accounts are operated by fraudsters with the intent to deceive and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

The University will issue an official statement through its verified channels when an authentic social media presence for the Vice-Chancellor is established.

It therefore advised members of the public to disregard any communication, request, or solicitation from these fraudulent accounts and to avoid engaging with them in any form.
