The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Staff School, Kaduna, has conducted its maiden Common Entrance Examination for prospective pupils seeking admission into Basic 6 and Basic 7.
The examination follows the recent approval by the Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Professor Uduma Oji Uduma, for the commencement of Basic 7 to Basic 9 classes at the school.
Speaking with NOUN News, the Director of the Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD), Dr. Amos Iliya, said the initiative was in line with the Federal Government's 9-3-4 education system.
Dr. Iliya expressed confidence in the school's capacity and readiness to run the new classes, citing the availability of qualified teachers, adequate classrooms and a conducive learning environment.
“We have the potential, ranging from qualified teachers and adequate classrooms to, ultimately, a serene environment suitable for learning and other academic activities,” he said.
He assured parents that the school was committed to delivering quality education while instilling discipline and sound moral values in its pupils.
“NSS is the school of the moment, with up-to-date teachers and facilities suitable for delivering 21st-Century education,” he added.
Also speaking, the Head of Administration of the school, Deputy Registrar Hajiya Maryam Kida, expressed optimism that the school would meet the expectations of parents and the wider community.
She appealed to members of the host communities to enrol their children in the school, stressing that it was established not only for children of NOUN staff but also for members of the general public.
“NSS is dedicated to providing quality education that will stand out in this area and Kaduna State as a whole,” she said.
Hajiya Kida further disclosed that additional entrance examinations would be conducted for prospective pupils in response to the growing interest from parents.
One of the parents whose two children participated in the examination told NOUN News that his decision to retain his children at the school was influenced by the solid educational foundation they had received during their primary school years.
“The school cannot be matched by any other school around this area in terms of its impact on teaching and learning,” he said.
