NUC accreditation team visits Enugu Centre

A high - powered accreditation team of the National Universities Commission (NUC) on Wednesday, November 29th, 2023, visited Enugu Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) for the accreditation of three  academic programmes: M Sc Business Administration, B Sc Economics and B Sc International Relations.

While welcoming the team, the centre director, Prof. Alexander Uche Onyia, assured that the vice-chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters and his management team were fully prepared and committed to ensure that the programmes put up for accreditation go through smoothly in the exercise.

Onyia stressed that the heads of departments were fully represented and ready to cooperate maximally for huge outcome. 

The chairman adhoc panel and team lead for M Sc Business Administration, Prof. Musa  Idris,  accompanied by Dr. Peter Olayiwola, an ODL expert, Dr Apollos Emerah and the NUC representative, Mr Agata Benjamin, in his response, said the visit was to ensure quality assurance in the university. 

Idris also underscored the importance of being open and making adequate provision for necessary materials that would assist them in the discharge of their duties, even as the team was taken round to inspect and assess the facilities at the centre.

The tour guide was ably led by Prof. Onyia, the dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof.Ugwuanyi, and the HOD, Business Administration, Dr. Adegbola Eunice, represented by Dr. Ume Eucharia Chibuzo.

The accreditation team expressed satisfaction about the facilities on ground as well as the currencies of books and journals at both  the physical and e - libraries,  noting the availability of online materials.

In the same vein, Prof. Baribor Vikoo, accompanied  by  Dr. Sabiu Sani Bariki and the NUC representative, Mrs Egwumba Immaculata, the accreditation team for B Sc Economics, interacted with the facilitators, students and the HoD, Economics.

Similarly, Dr Emmanuel I. Ajudua and the NUC team expressed excitement over the responses given to them in terms of modus  operandi of NOUN's technology-driven, convenient and flexible mode of instructional delivery at the institution. 

Other factors with which the assessors were impressed were accessibility of online resources and physical course materials as well as the fact that students can engage in facilitation at the comfort of their homes among others. 

The team applauded the university on the currency of books and journals in the physical library, even as Dr. Mercy E. Okwoli, explained the accessibility and functionality of the e- library which she demonstrated to the admiration of the team.  

Prof. E.O. Ezeani, accompanied by Prof. Zako Hassin,ODL expert and the NUC representative, Mr. Joseph Akan, in charge of accreditation of B Sc International Relations visited the e - exams hall, the counselor's office, the store and both the physical and e- libraries. 

Dr Ebele Udeoji, took resposibility in answering questions that bordered within the programme.

The team commended the university for the facilities at the centre and could not hide the fact that they were impressed with the currency of books and journals in the physical and e- libraries, as well as the adequacy of online materials. 

Representing the Directorate of Academic Planning  (DAP) during the exercise were Mrs. Seun Oyenuga and Mrs Chioma P. Onuoha, for M.  Sc Business Administration and B Sc  International Relations respectively, while Alhassan Enemona, represented DAP for Economics. 

The exercise ended smoothly, even as Onyia expressed optimism that the accreditation would sail through.
