A philanthropist, Hajiya Fatima Shuaibu Abarshi, has donated 110 copies of the Nigerian Tax Act and the Joint Tax Board of Nigeria Establishment Act 2025 to the Northwest Regional Library of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Kaduna.

The donation, made through Mr. Usman Ibrahim Marafa, a Principal Assistant Registrar in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, forms part of Hajiya Abarshi's community service initiative aimed at strengthening access to current legal and fiscal resources for students, researchers, and members of the academic community.

Speaking on the rationale behind the gesture, Hajiya Abarshi said the donation was borne out of her desire to contribute meaningfully to education and capacity building in Nigeria.

She noted that a sound understanding of taxation and revenue administration is critical to national development and that providing students with up-to-date legal texts would equip them with the knowledge required to participate effectively in policy discussions and professional practice.

She said the books would enable students to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the new tax laws and revenue framework introduced by the Federal Government in 2025.

According to her, access to the materials within the regional library will enhance research, improve learning outcomes in law, accounting, and public administration courses, and bridge the gap between academic theory and practical fiscal policy.

Speaking shortly after receiving the books, the Head of the Northwest Regional Library, Mrs. Hassana Ibrahim, described the donation as a significant boost to the library's collection and commended Hajiya Abarshi for her commitment to educational development.

She noted that the donated books, which focus on contemporary tax laws and taxation practices, would serve as valuable resources for students by enhancing their understanding of taxation-related issues and keeping them abreast of the latest legal and fiscal developments.

Mrs. Ibrahim added that the donation would greatly support teaching, learning, research, and overall academic development within the university.

She praised the philanthropist's thoughtful contribution, stating that it demonstrates a strong commitment to educational advancement and lifelong learning.

According to her, the books will be of immense benefit to students and other library users seeking current information on taxation and related subjects.

Conveying the appreciation of the University Librarian, Professor Angela Okpala, Mrs. Ibrahim expressed gratitude for the generous gesture, noting that the books would enrich the library's collection and significantly enhance the provision of quality information resources for students and researchers.

She reaffirmed NOUN's commitment to fostering partnerships and encouraging initiatives that promote access to information resources, knowledge sharing, and academic excellence across the university system.
