The new Ag. Director of the Rimi Gado Community Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Dahiru Usman has formally assumed duty at the centre.
He took over from Malam Ibrahim Shehu, who has been redeployed to head the Gwarzo and Shanono Community Study Centres.
Speaking during the brief handover ceremony, Dr. Usman expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve and pledged to uphold the principles of sincerity, transparency and accountability in the discharge of his responsibilities.
He outlined key priorities for his administration: teamwork, aggressive advocacy for NOUN programmes, students’ welfare, improved enrolment, retention and graduation rates, as well as security and community engagement.
“Rimi Gado Study Centre must be visible. We will aggressively advocate for NOUN and take our programmes to the people of Rimi Gado, Kano and beyond,” he said.
On students’ welfare, the Acting Director said his administration would prioritise timely facilitation, counselling, prompt response to complaints and the provision of a conducive learning environment.
He also pledged to work towards increasing student enrolment, improving retention and enhancing graduation rates, stressing that every admission represented a responsibility that must ultimately lead to successful graduation.
“Every admission is a trust, and every graduation is a success story we must deliver,” he said.
Dr. Usman further stressed the need to strengthen security at the centre and build stronger relationships with the host community, traditional rulers and other key stakeholders.
He appealed to members of staff to give him their cooperation and support, as well as their prayers, as he works to move the centre to greater heights.
In his remarks, the outgoing head, Malam Ibrahim Shehu, thanked the University Management and staff for their support during his tenure and urged them to extend the same cooperation to his successor.
He expressed confidence that the incoming Acting Director would build on existing achievements and lead the centre towards greater progress.
