The management of the Uyo Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has sensitised 230 students on the academic requirements, procedures and expectations for DES303, DES707 and DES807 courses for the 2026_2 semester.
The sensitisation exercise, held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, featured detailed briefings on the courses, academic compliance and the grouping of students for effective participation.
Addressing the students, the Centre Director, Dr. Uduak Irene Aletan, emphasised the importance of academic discipline, compliance with university regulations and the responsible use of official university communication channels.
She urged students to safeguard their official email accounts and passwords, warning them against sharing login credentials with third parties.
According to her, students whose accounts are used for fraudulent or other unauthorised activities will be held accountable in accordance with applicable university regulations.
Speaking on DES303, Introduction to Community Development, Dr. Aletan explained that the course was designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills required for effective community engagement and sustainable development.
She encouraged students to maintain close contact with their designated DES Desk Officers and comply with all authorised instructions, timelines and submission requirements to ensure smooth participation and assessment.
The Centre Director also informed postgraduate students enrolled in DES707 and DES807 that the postgraduate component of the programme was centrally coordinated by the University Headquarters.
She advised the students to join the designated Telegram platform provided by the DES Desk Officers and obtain official information and instructions only through authorised communication channels.
The grouping exercise formed a major component of the programme, with students who had completed the required documentation appropriately assigned to groups.
Team Leaders were subsequently appointed to coordinate the various groups, facilitate communication among members and promote effective participation throughout the exercise.
Aletan urged the students to cooperate with their Team Leaders and DES Desk Officers and respond promptly to official communications.
She stressed that effective coordination and strict adherence to university guidelines were essential to the successful implementation of the DES courses.
The Centre Director described DES303, DES707 and DES807 as opportunities for students to acquire practical knowledge, develop professional competence and make meaningful contributions to society, rather than merely fulfilling academic requirements.
She challenged the students to approach the courses with seriousness, creativity, discipline and commitment, stressing that the impact of their work in their host communities should reflect the knowledge, skills and values acquired through the university.
