As part of activities to assess its students’ competency through direct observation, the Department of Nursing Sciences of the National Open University of Nigeria, (NOUN), has commenced the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for its students.
This is the first time the department is conducting OSCE for the students
The examination is basically to help the BNSc students practice and demonstrate clinical skills in a standardised medical environment.
The exercise, which is being held across the six selected study centres in the North-Central zone: Ilorin, Makurdi, Lokoja, Minna, Lafia and Gwagwalada at the specialist hospitals domiciled within their various states.

Head of the department, Dr. Elizabeth Joseph-Shehu and Prof. Helen Kwanashie led the supervision and coordinated the team of examiners, preceptors and faculty desk officers at the centres.
The coordinators further commended the students for the turn out and wished them a successful examination.
On their part, the students commended the process even as it was their first time, saying that it was a very good experience.
They showed their happiness being part of the history making event, which has boosted their confidence.
