The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has commenced the deployment of the Project Administration System (PAS 4) as part of efforts to strengthen academic administration and accelerate the university’s digital transformation agenda.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, disclosed this at a workshop on the effective use of PAS 4, organised by the Directorate of Learning Content Management Systems (DLCMS) on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the university’s headquarters in Abuja.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Shehu Usman Adamu, the Vice-Chancellor described PAS 4 as a strategic digital solution designed to streamline project supervision, assessment, documentation and records management across the university.
He said the system would enhance efficiency, accountability and transparency in project administration while reducing delays associated with manual processes.
Prof. Ujuma urged participants to maximise the training, stressing that their understanding and effective use of the platform would be critical to its successful implementation across faculties and departments.
Also speaking at the workshop, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Technology, Innovation and Research, Prof. Christine Ofulue, emphasised the importance of technology-driven solutions in strengthening academic administration and research management.
On his part, the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Sonie Oniye, commended the initiative, noting that PAS 4 would improve the management and monitoring of postgraduate projects while strengthening quality assurance processes.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including deans of faculties, heads of departments, examination officers and designated departmental representatives from across the university.
Giving an overview of the platform, the Director of DLCMS, Dr. Vivian Nwaocha, explained its key features and functionalities, as well as the responsibilities of departments in ensuring effective implementation.
She said PAS 4 was designed to digitise and centralise project administration processes, strengthen monitoring mechanisms and provide a more efficient framework for supervising students’ research projects.
Dr. Nwaocha disclosed that the workshop was part of activities preceding the full deployment of PAS 4, adding that an earlier training session had been organised for departmental staff as part of efforts to ensure broad institutional preparedness.
She further disclosed that the Directorate held a stakeholder engagement session for Study Centre Directors and Desk Officers on September 1, 2026, attracting more than 460 participants.
According to her, additional sensitisation sessions would be organised for students, supervisors and external examiners to promote effective adoption and utilisation of the platform across the university.
The deployment of PAS 4 is expected to transform project administration at NOUN by improving supervision, assessment, documentation and monitoring, while further advancing the institution’s digital transformation efforts in teaching, learning and research management.
