Students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Kaduna Study Centre, enrolled in DES 303, have donated a 10KVA Hybrid Solar Inverter to the centre as their Community Development Service (CDS) project.

The project, jointly executed by Groups C, E, F and G, is aimed at giving back to the institution that has contributed significantly to their academic growth and development.

Speaking during the presentation and commissioning ceremony, the Director of the Kaduna Study Centre, Dr. Babangida Iro, represented by the Head of Administration, Deputy Registrar Hajiya Fatima Yakubu, expressed appreciation to the students and all those who contributed to the successful execution of the project.

She described the donation as a demonstration of the students' commitment to practical learning and their sense of responsibility towards the institution.

"In this brief but significant ceremony, the centre is delighted to receive this 10KVA Hybrid Solar Inverter.

"This gesture reflects your commitment to practical learning and your desire to give back to the institution that is shaping your academic journey," she said.

According to her, the centre takes pride in the initiative, teamwork and financial sacrifice demonstrated by the students in conceptualising and executing the laudable project.

Yakubu noted that the provision of the inverter was both timely and strategic, as it would significantly improve power stability for academic activities, reduce downtime during examinations and create a more conducive learning environment for both staff and students.

"This is the kind of practical application of knowledge that NOUN stands for. You have made the university and your course facilitator proud," she added.

On behalf of the university management and the Kaduna Study Centre, Yakubu commended Groups C, E, F and G for the landmark contribution, expressing hope that the gesture would inspire other students to develop innovative solutions that add value to the centre.

She urged the students to continue upholding the core values of NOUN—discipline, excellence and service.

The representative of the director also commended the course Desk Officer, Mr. Nura Marafa, for his effective coordination and dedication, which culminated in the successful execution of the project.

Earlier, the chairman of the groups said the project was conceived out of the need to contribute meaningfully to the learning environment and to give back to an institution that has shaped them academically.

"It is with gratitude that we formally present this 10KVA Hybrid Solar Inverter to the centre as our community service project.

"We are grateful to the Director, Dr. Babangida Iro, represented by Hajiya Fatima Yakubu, the Desk Officer, Mallam Nura Marafa, and all members of staff for their guidance and support in making this project a reality," he said.

He noted that the inverter symbolises the students' contribution towards uninterrupted learning, stable power supply and a more conducive atmosphere for academic activities at the centre.

"We believe this facility will help address the challenges of power outages during official activities and examinations and will serve the entire NOUN community for many years to come.

"As students, we see this as our way of promoting the NOUN values of self-reliance, service and excellence. We pray that the facility will be properly maintained and maximally utilised for the benefit of present and future students," he added.

The event was attended by senior management staff of the Kaduna Study Centre, who also delivered goodwill messages and commended the students for their exemplary initiative and commitment to the development of the institution.
